ARTIST STATEMENT

Amnaj’s Impressionist-style oil paintings of abstract and semi-abstract landscapes are brought to life through seemingly still surfaces of paint that, upon closer inspection, reveal astonishing layers of depth and dimension. Rich with emotional resonance, each painting offers a different experience depending on the viewer’s own memories, emotions, and interpretations, allowing them to reconstruct stories upon the canvas in their own way.

For Amnaj, however, the canvas represents an ideal world— a continuation of a body of work filled with colors, natural scenery, and seemingly innocent birds that is, in fact, a form of social critique from the perspective of a contemporary painter.

BIOGRAPHY

Amnaj Wachirasurt approaches painting as an intimate dialogue between the mind and inner emotions. Using oil paints, he crafts semi-abstract works that play with light and shadow, revealing shifting dimensions as the viewer moves around them. His art transcends reality, weaving connections between the conscious and subconscious minds while reflecting on life, the environment, and the complexities of human perception and feeling.

He completed both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Silpakorn University’s Faculty of Painting, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts. Wachirasut has been honored with several prestigious awards, including first place at the Thailand ASEAN Art Award by Philip Morris in 1996, as well as the Contemporary Art Award from the Petroleum Authority of Thailand in 1997.

His paintings have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions at leading galleries across Thailand and internationally, with notable showings in cities like Paris and Manila. His works continue to attract collectors and are frequently included in art auctions.
