BIOGRAPHY
Thai artist Bathma Kaew-Ngok, aka. Bat, is a leading figure in the pottery and ceramics scene in Thailand. He creates everyday objects that are both useful and aesthetically pleasing. “Simplicity” and “Nature” are the core concept for his artwork. He believes in using organic colors from the earth and using his hands to craft his art.
Born in Phetchaburi, Bat received his education in Pottery from Chulalongkorn University. He went on a scholarship to study with a Japanese ceramic master in Iga city, Japan for 2 years. There he learned a Japanese style of ceramic art that emphasizes nature in its materials and processes. He now opens his ceramic studio at Nong Seua district, Pathum Thani province.
His motto “imperfection is beauty” embodies the spirit of nature and being one with it. His artwork appears to be rustic with imperfect shapes and subtle earthy colors. It pays tribute to the nature with minimal manipulation by man.
