ARTIST STATEMENT

Sunlight touches drops of rain. Buds sprout leaves and grow; thrust out branches, blossom into flowers, which ripen into fruit-an impressive display of the beauty of life. As the days pass, and bring with them change, the leaves and branches begin to wither, die and fall to ground; its fruits go flying and bury into the earth, awaiting the day they bloom once again. As I record this unfolding with the lines that I make on paper, it heightens my appreciation of its beauty, and instills an understanding and acceptance of change- which is natural- as well as preparing me to face whatever life will bring with inner strength and serenity.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The dried-out branches that have fallen to the ground are telling a story of change and the uncertainty of life through their trace-like, fragmented forms. Some fall and dry out because they had reached the end of their lifespan. Some are broken off and tossed in the wind, scattered in the storm. Some fall, because they must be cast off for the tree to survive the changing seasons. I have recorded the value and meaning of this story in these brushstrokes to remind myself to live my life with care and purpose, and to know the value of the time I have left.
