BIOGRAPHY

  • 1962 Born in Tawau , Malaysia
  • 1976 First art prize at the public gallery “Towner art gallery” Eastbourne , UK while studied at Eastbourne College
  • 1978 First contact with David Hockney
  • 1980 Studied and worked as a traditional hand made picture framer and was introduced to sculpting in wood and guilding
  • 1982 Studied picture restoration and the science of painting and the classical materials under Antonio di Medido
  • 1983 Won first prize and a one man show at the “Union Gallery” in San Francisco
  • 1984 Moved back to London and spent time with David Hockney, Francis Bacon and Gilbert and George. Learnt a lot from them.
  • 1985 Patronized by Sir John Pritchard (conductor) and managed by Basil Horsfield (manager of Kiri Te Kanawa). Moved to Monte-Carlo. Solo expo at the “Martinez Hotel”, France during the Cannes Film Festival

  • 1986 Worked mainly on commission pieces. Studied marble sculpture in Italy and etching in Paris . Won many minor art prizes around France .
  • 1987 Guest lecturer and art teacher in anatomy at “Beaux-art”
  • 1988 Portrait commissions both in oil and marble, moving between France and America
  • 1989 Worked on “To Anyone who Cares”, a series of 24 large canvases on the lives of street children in London . Shown at the “Hampshire Gallery”, London
  • 1991 Worked as designer at the Monte-Carlo Opera and worked for portraits by commission only
  • 1992 Went into recluse in Vence , France . Turned into teaching as head teacher at the VAAS Foundation, former studio of Jean Dubuffet
  • 1993 Still disillusioned with the art world and the damands. Remained and enjoyed teaching. Refused all commission work
  • 1994 Portrait of John Green as a knight. Worked both in France and Australia
  • 1995 Worked in Australia for the two large “Prodigal Son” pieces
  • 1996 Worked on large commission from Billabong in Australia , and two portraits in Los Angeles , Senator of Nevada, Bill Hernstadt
  • 1997 Burnt out again. Moved back to France and opened a school and studied stained glass
  • 1998 Worked on “Hidden Agenda,” a large tryptic
  • 1999 Carried on with teaching, refusing all commission work
  • 2000 Portrait of Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach in London . Still running the school
  • 2001 Portraits of several well known people in the US
  • 2002 Closed the school to concentrate on finding a new direction
  • 2003 Opened own gallery in France and started work on Ringo Starr’s Hand commission
  • 2004 Won prize at the “Not the Turner Prize” Competition, Mall Gallery, London. Started the anatomical stained glass pieces
  • 2005 Worked to show only in own gallery
  • 2006 Closed gallery. Moved to Thailand
