ARTIST STATEMENT
Thanathorn adapts a vintage typewriter as a creative tool to intricately construct combinations of visual and textual imagery that protrude from two to three-dimensions. Her methodically crafted portraits are a commentary on shifting social attitudes, and are an examination on the role of paternalistic veneration within society.
The composite production of the letters and words Thanathorn types are symbolic to genetic coding and our biological make up. As well as invoking human DNA, her textual phrasing and the physical act of punching the typewriter keys is metaphoric to particular environmental nurturing. This unique combination of the natural and emotional directs our existence. However through the course of our mortal lives social and cultural determiners can further alter our formative disposition.
