Untold Traces
For Kitikong Tilokwattanotai, printmaking is a practice of turning inwards: an observation and composition of the traces of the self as they emerge in colors, forms and characters. His abstract works are themselves traces of the process of creation, the remainder of a dynamic field of cause and effect that opens up when, at key moments, Tilokwattanotai relinquishes control and his art-making becomes a form of personal revelation. Viewers of his works encounter that very potency that issues forth from the meeting of introspection and the pursuit of beauty: a rawness and authenticity that allows the presence of the self, in trace-form, to be fully felt.
