About Preecha Thaothong
Born in 1948 in Bangkok
He received the country’s highest honor in 2009 as “Thailand’s National Artist,” the award only bestowed to selected individuals who demonstrate notable skills in art practices.
Thaothong finds inspiration in the region’s glorious history. He specializes in capturing light and the effect it makes on the backdrop of intricate architecture of temples around Asia. He was one of the seven leading national artists selected to create paintings for “Mahajanaka”, a book penned by His Majesty the King.
More recently Thaothong has worked for Thai Airways International (THAI) as its chief artistic consultant for the national flag-carrier. His work is also featured at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
Thaothong has exhibited widely in Asia, Europe and America.
